Brad Mehldau, piano

March 24 @ 7:30 pm

$10 – $50

Grammy Award winner Brad Mehldau is one of contemporary jazz piano’s most lyrical and intimate voices. His improvisations are spontaneous, filled with surprise and wonder, and complemented by a rigorous appreciation of the formal architecture of music. The two sides of Mehldau’s personality—the improviser and the formalist—play off each other to create a sublime form of controlled chaos.

With his singular, intense style, Mehldau has performed worldwide since the mid-1990s, both with his trio and as a solo pianist. Mehldau has worked with many great jazz musicians, including a two-year role with saxophonist Joshua Redman’s band; recordings and concerts with Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, and Lee Konitz; and recording as a sideman with Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Charles Lloyd. His music has appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut and Wim Wender’s Million Dollar Hotel.
