There’s something sexy about Windhand’s gooey psychedelic metal. The most immediate hit is the soaring tones of lead singer Dorthia Cottrell. The band provides the groove-based, monolithic thickness by which its distinctive voice has the power to elicit and keep interest. The Richmond group’s new, Jack Endino-produced double album, “Grief’s Infernal Flower” on Relapse Records, is doom-and-gloom as aphrodisiac. The Alice in Chains-on-downers burn of “Hyperion” and the eight-minute molasses pour of “Two Urns” seep, weep and creep with protracted pleasures and pains. Like all good records (and seductions), the more you listen, the more it draws you in. Windhand celebrates the release of the album Friday, Sept. 18, at Strange Matter.
