Event Pick: Wildhoney, Christi and Big Baby at Gallery5

Sunday, Aug. 14

Pop music comes in many different forms and guises. The slipper surveyors in Wildhoney make a brand that’s colored and shaped by careful consideration. The Baltimore group’s 2015 EP release, “Your Face Sideways” on Topshelf Records is a survey of above-and-below-ground pop sensibilities. From the peppy, late-period Pretenders bounce of “Hurts to Hear” to the sparse glockenspiel-led meditation, “FSA II,” Wildhoney’s ethereal, six-string pursuits draw you in through the power of suggestion. I can hear the lingering ghost walks of English ’90s dream catchers Lush, Ride and the Sundays reincarnated for modern impressionistic living. On Sunday, Aug. 14, Wildhoney brings its translucent color theories to Gallery5. Richmond garage rockers Christi and capital city indie-pop trio Big Baby open. The got-to-work-in-the-morning-friendly show runs 7-11 p.m. Admission is $5. gallery5arts.org.
