Feb. 13

If your idea of a fun Valentine’s weekend involves indulging your love of bluegrass music, you’re in luck. On Saturday, Feb. 13, there are two concerts for you to get closer to the down-home sound you love. Starting at noon, the Virginia Folk Music Association presents the sixth annual Bluegrass Festival at the McShin Foundation. Virginia-based groups Nu Fescue, New Virginia Grass, Josh Grigsby and County Line, Dust Cutters, Code Blue, Copper Ridge and Heritage will provide the soundtrack while you eat Brunswick stew and shop at the market between the bands’ sets. Admission is $10, vafolkmusic.org. After the daytime festivities draw to a close, acclaimed North Carolinian quintet Balsam Range comes to the Capital City for a performance at the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the concert by the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Association entertainers of the year. $10-$40. modlin.richmond.edu.
