Event Pick: Turbo Suit, DJ Agent and the Phil Dice Band at the Broadberry

April 23

Turbo Suit’s recently released EP, “Back to Life,” is an easy-on-the-ear romp through modern electronic funk. The Indianapolis livetronica trio reminds me of a less hip-hopped Beastie Boys on the same mission to check your head and get your body movin’. On the instrumental tracks, “Bloom” and “Sex Journey,” the space between the notes is just as important as the melodies and rhythms. The unified, loose-but-tight vision on how to get the party started works on the vocal tracks as well. On the poppy, disco bounce of “Back to Life” and the taunt strut of “Unbound,” guest vocalist Kelly Marie colors the compositions with a lissome temptation. My favorite track is the sitar-sprinkled, “Death Trap,” featuring operatic tenor Carlos Seise in a cinematic merger of house, classical and Bollywood. Turbo Suit heats up the dance floor at the Broadberry on Saturday, April 23. DJ Agent and the Phil Dice Band open. Doors open at 8 p.m. $7-$10. thebroadberry.com.
