Event Pick: Tiny Moving Parts, Prawn, Free Throw and Shy, Low at the Camel

June 5

There is nothing small about Tiny Moving Parts. The emo mathematicians from Benson, Minnesota, do everything in the huge, rock-based extreme. The trio has been bursting at the seams since 2010 with a whisper-to-scream aesthetic born of post-hardcore teenage angst. The group’s recently released third album, “Celebrate,” is a polished pop journey into primal scream therapy. Surprisingly musical, the introspective roller-coaster rides of “Headache,” “Common Cold” and the album’s first single, “Happy Birthday,” stop and start every emotional valley and peak with a pertinacious intensity. The group spills out over its heavily stylized, punk ’n’ roll sides Sunday, June 5, at the Camel. Joining it for the night of spontaneous combustions are New Jersey’s Prawn, Free Throw from Nashville and Richmond’s own Shy, Low. Doors open for the all-ages show at 7 p.m. $12-$14. thecamel.org.
