There used to be a saying, “Skateboarding is not a crime.” What is a crime is that a city of our size only has one skate park (the 28th Street Skatespot in Carter Jones Park). On Saturday, April 30, the Richmond Area Skateboard Alliance addresses the issue when it holds Thrash for Cash at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. The purpose of the event is to raise money to build a skate park at Texas Beach. Wheel-based festivities include skateboard and bike trick contests, a silent auction featuring creations from 40 artists and performances by RPG, Gritty City Records, Slowers, Sports Bar, Tangerine and Park Sparrows. The free, family-friendly social, showcase and fundraiser runs 2-9:30 p.m. Find out the latest in the local world of skateboarding at rasaproject.org. hardywood.com.
