For a taste of local Latin culture this weekend, be sure to check out the annual Qué Pasa Festival of Virginia, happening Saturday, May 7, on Richmond’s Canal Walk. Organized by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the downtown waterway transforms into the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco in Mexico City. There will be boat rides, dance performances and music as well as food, vendors and interactive activities to keep all members of the family thoroughly entertained. The free festivities take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call 378-4099 or visit quepasafestival.com. Taking place at the same time is the Barko De Mayo block party at the Continental Divide in the Fan. The free, dog-friendly celebration features a canine photo booth, corn hole, giant Jenga and karaoke competitions, vinyl-spinning DJs and performances by Disco Risque, Gold Top County Ramblers, the Slank and Murphy’s Kids. The party goes all the way to last call with a portion of the day’s proceeds going to benefit the Richmond SPCA. Call 359-9690 or visit eatdivide.com.
