The most important contribution Kiss made to rock ’n’ roll was the importance of putting on a unique show. That legacy will be on display this week when Richmond roots rockers the Northerners team up with capital city ice skaters, Ice Cold Combos, for a series of collaborative performances at Skate Nation Plus. Led by the brother and sister singing combo of Ally and Justin Khoury, the Northerners’ Americana sound isn’t the typical musical backing you’d expect at an ice-skating rink. They play an organic, sweat-and-blood brand of electrified, 20th-century folk rock in the vein of Dylan, the Byrds and Janis Joplin that’s captured brilliantly on their debut EP release, “Virginia.” The addition of choreographed movements by ice skaters with the group’s undeniable charms will be an interesting juxtaposition. This one-of-a-kind rock show demands to be seen and the performances take place July 2-4 with Thursday and Friday shows starting 7:30 p.m. and a 4:30 p.m. matinee on Independence Day. Tickets are $12.50-$50. richmondskating.com.
