Every year since 2005, the Giving Heart has thrown a Community Thanksgiving Feast at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. It’s a way to give back while experiencing a different kind of heartwarming holiday celebration. You can help out with the nearly 3,000 meals served that day, or simply sit down to enjoy some food with others looking for company. Have plans for Thursday? The Giving Heart also needs volunteers to help get the event ready the day before. Still unavailable? Consider donating blankets, coats, clothing or self-care items to the organization. And remember that it’s a celebration that welcomes everyone as guests — students unable to get home, seniors and people seeking community, as well as the homeless. Doors open Thanksgiving morning at 9:30, with food coming out from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. And don’t worry about parking. It’s free at the deck at Third and Marshall streets. thegivingheart.org.
