Event Pick: The Blue and the Grey Record Release Party at the Camel

Saturday, Aug. 1

The folk rock Americana of the Blue and the Grey is all about heritage. The Richmond group knows its history but isn’t limited by it. A musical merger of what was with what will be, the band’s present is defined by an acoustic-based desire to embrace the moment. Songs from its new album, “Home” (the midtempo country rock of “I’ll Be There to Meet You” and the winsome yearning of “I Can”) are serenely intimate in their appraisals of the human condition. The group brings a measured approach to the complexity of emotion, which is enriched by doing what’s best for a song. The Blue and the Grey celebrate their album release Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Camel. Joining it will be local kindred spirits Long Arms and Tarrant Duo. Doors at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. thecamel.org. — Chris Bopst
