Doing anything for 25 years is a landmark achievement that doesn’t happen by chance. The 43rd Street Festival of the Arts celebrates its silver anniversary Saturday, Sept. 17, as Richmond’s longest-running creative carnival. The annual event features a myriad of handcrafted creations from a handpicked selection of 75 local and regional artisans working in every medium imaginable. From the functional pottery of Floyd artist Josh Manning to the distinctive head-toppings of J. Ignatius Creegan and Rod Givens at Ignatius Hats, there’s something for everyone to want to take home. The sounds of Rachel Layco, Blue Line Highway, Elana Lisa and the Hot Mess, Bluz Catz and Janet Martin will fill the air while activities and consumables should keep the whole family entertained. Proceeds benefit Caritas, the Richmond organization that networks with local churches to put roofs over the heads of people in need. The free festivities run 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 43rdstgallery.com.
