Chuck Wrenn is one of the many unsung heroes of Richmond. The music aficionado originated the beloved outdoor Church Hill music festival, High on the Hog. Today, the Hogtober Festival brought to you by the Church Hill Association pays homage to the tradition on Saturday, Oct. 1, in historic Libby Hill Park. The annual, pig-themed event celebrates homegrown barbecue, beer and bands to benefit the Church Hill Association. On the stage, the Church Hill Music Company, Diamond Heist (Neil Diamond tribute), Life on Mars (David Bowie tribute) and the Hit List (all kinds of covers) play while you stuff your face to the culinary offerings of Alamo BBQ, Buz and Ned’s Real Barbeque, the Halligan Bar and Grill, Ronnie’s Ribs, Jadeans Smokin Six O, Inner City Blues Home of Carolina BBQ and King of Pops. Plus, naturally, there’s craft beer. Fun for the whole family, the free, early-fall festivities run noon-7. hogtober.com.
