Another veteran band from Philadelphia, Stinking Lizaveta is the metal doom-jazz, freak-out instrumental trio you never knew you needed in your life. Taking its name from the homeless village idiot character in Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s “Brothers Karamazov,” Stinking Liz has been blowing away Richmond audiences with its spasmodic brilliance ever since the early ‘90s, when its debut was recorded by producer Steve Albini. The talented trio has a frenetic new album (“Journey to the Underworld”) which sounds like guitarist Yanni is still loving his Yngwie Malmsteen albums and on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Gallery5, the band will be joined by Dischord recording artist Branch Manager, originally from Reston, plus another band TBA. Sounds at 9 p.m. $6-$7. gallery5arts.org.
