Led by ferocious frontwoman Tina Halladay, Philly’s rising rock outfit Sheer Mag is one of the more exciting live bands anywhere these days, marrying a love for classic ’70s guitar rock by the likes of Thin Lizzy with slick metal confidence and an old-school, blue-collar, do-it-yourself aesthetic. The band’s new album, “Need to Feel Your Love” is a little more polished, but still raw and catchy AF. See what all the fuss is about when the group plays Strange Matter on Aug. 25 with Haram, Birth (Defects) and great local lady punkers Christi, who sadly will be playing their last show. Christi have an eight-song cassette for sale. 9 p.m. $12.
