I can think of no Richmond musician more beloved or admired than Robbin Thompson. The songwriting guitarist’s death in October after a long battle with cancer was marked by an outpouring of affection. His music and generous spirit touched generations here. On Sunday, Feb. 28, the Robbin Thompson Band plays host to “Robbin Thompson’s Real Fine Day: a Tribute to the Man and His Music” at the National. The performance will feature Steve Bassett, Marna Bales, Leetah Stanley, Gregg Wetzel, Mike Lucas and guests playing Thomson’s music with his longtime band. True to his life-defining support of the arts, proceeds go to benefit JamInc and the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community, nonprofits that promote education and participation in the performing arts. Doors open for the loving farewell to one of Richmond’s favorite sons at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25-$45. thenationalva.com.
