Event Pick: Ricochet: “Smoke and Mirrors” at the Modlin Center for the Arts

Jan. 22 and 23

Cohdi Harrell and Laura Stokes are not your father’s acrobats. As Ricochet, the performance duo based in rural New Mexico has transformed traditional trapeze into a high-wire art form. The circus of two brings its merger of acrobatics, contemporary dance and contortion to Modlin Center for the Arts for performances of “Smoke and Mirrors” on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22 and 23, at Alice Jepson Theatre. The thematic mediation on capitalism and the pursuit of happiness in modern America uses their uncanny ability to get to the physical heart of an emotional truth. Show time for both performances, internationally hailed as a groundbreaking live experience, is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-$32. modlin.richmond.edu.
