Event Pick: Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project Showcase and Benefit at Strange Matter

April 6

Republicans want small government — small enough to fit inside a woman’s uterus. Part of the incidental comedy troupe passing itself off as the GOP these days is partly defined by its legislative obsession with restricting women’s reproductive rights. Working to uphold a woman’s right to choose is the Richmond Reproductive Project. And on Wednesday, April 6, the grass-roots organization — dedicated to providing practical and financial support for abortion services in Virginia and surrounding communities — is holding a local-music and comedy showcase at Strange Matter. The night will feature performances by Proceed the Eye, Machine Chop Inc., Enemy Exorcism and Bare Thoughts and the witticisms of Patrick Miller, Trish Blaine and Clay Shoaf. Proceeds go to benefit the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon, the national organization that organizes bowling events to raise money for abortion providers. Doors open at 6 p.m. with entertainment at 8. $5. strangematterrva.com.
