Event Pick: Queensrÿche at the Beacon Theatre in Hopewell

May 1

At the height of its MTV-fueled powers, Queensrÿche was one of the most popular and influential mainstream metal bands of the late ’80s. The group’s 1988 rock opera, “Operation: Mindcrime,” set worldwide charts ablaze and made the band from Bellevue, Washington, an international sensation. On Sunday, May 1, the group’s current incarnation plays its multi-platinum hits and new offerings from its 2015 return-to-form “Condition Hüman” at the Beacon Theatre. Original vocalist Geoff Tate quit in 2012 after a messy and public legal battle. Former Crimson Glory singer Todd LaTorre now leads the group, which includes founding members Michael Wilton on guitar, Eddie Jackson on bass and Scott Rockenfield on drums. Despite the change, the head banging remains the same. Doors open at 6 p.m. $22-$80. thebeacontheatreva.com.
