Philly rock trio Purling Hiss is centered around the damaged guitar heroics of multi-instrumentalist Mike Polizze, a rising songwriter with talent to burn who often writes hazy, melodic songs that might sound at home in the ’70s or ’80s. Known for his early lo-fi bedroom recordings of smothered pop genius, fleshed out on later full-band releases for Drag City, Polizze tells Style that the band has a new bass player, Pat Hickey, and they just returned from playing European shows with Royal Trux and Dinosaur Jr. They’ll be joined at Black Iris on Saturday, Sept. 9 by the Philly basement boogie of Long Hots, featuring members of Spacin and Hot Head. 8 p.m. $6 to $10. Cash bar. 321westbroad.com.
