Event Pick: Pete Curry, the Wimps and Indoor/Indoor at the Camel

Jan. 17

Pete Curry sounds like a well-adjusted Skip Spence. Whereas the original drummer of Jefferson Airplane and guitarist for Moby Grape was sparsely obtuse in his lo-fi solo offerings, Curry is right at home in his uncluttered surroundings. On his debut solo album, “Advice on Love,” the Richmond native embraces the crazy little thing called love with the heart of a pop-music therapist. Tunes such as the slow-building “Speed of Light” and the Magnetic Fields-meets-Big Star lament “1998” showcase Curry’s gregarious lucidity. Whether you’re falling in or out of love, he makes music to help you second that emotion. Curry brings his numerous reasons to be cheerful to the Camel on Sunday, Jan. 17. Joining him will be the measured tones of local groups the Wimps and Indoor/Indoor. Doors open at 9 p.m. $5. thecamel.org.
