EVENT PICK: Patterson Hood at the Broadberry

Dec. 4

Lead singer for the Drive-By-Truckers, Patterson Hood is known as one of the country’s most acclaimed political songwriters these days. His band released an angry single on Election Day, “This Perilous Night,” that he wrote in the wake of the Charlottesville tragedy with lyrics offering a rebuke of Donald Trump and fascist groups. Proceeds from the song went to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Performing solo in Richmond, Hood may play that song, or other memorable tunes such as “What It Means,” written in response to the Ferguson, Missouri, protests after the shooting of Michael Brown, or “Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife,” his touching song for the Harvey family. In other words, this ain’t your daddy’s Southern rock. A native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, who now lives in Portland, Oregon, Hood performs at the Broadberry on Monday, Dec. 4, with rising local talent Sid Kingsley. Doors at 7 p.m. Show at 8 p.m. $20-$25. thebroadberry.com.
