Event Pick: “Patriot Act” at the Firehouse Theatre

Feb. 26

Given the Chicken Little divisiveness of today’s politics, who can blame people for avoiding any sort of political discussion? Still, while you may not take an interest in politics, politics most certainly takes an interest in you. Patriot Act, the 47-minute comedic whirlwind through American history by Los Angeles-based solo performer Mike Schlitt, is all about hands-on political engagement. The interactive performance explores the facts and fictions of our democratic process Friday, Feb. 26, at the Firehouse Theatre. A patriotic potluck starts off the evening at 7, with attending citizens encouraged to bring red, white and blue edibles to share with their fellow countrymen. The caucus of civic-minded comedy begins when award-winning Virginia Commonwealth University slam poetry team Good Clear Sound takes the stage at 8. Suggested donation is $10. firehousetheatre.org.
