Murabess wants to get up close and personal. The solo project of Richmond guitarist and songwriter Aubrey Kuhn, her lo-fi indie folk is a conversational survey of interpersonal relationships. Her breathy inquisitive intonations work by allowing the listener room to breathe. Capital city quartet the Talkies uses rock to mine emotional terrains. The bass, drum and guitar mixture of Shocking Blue pop, rock and folk emphasizes Marissa Porcelli’s undeniable vocal appeal. The Solar Tantrums’ 2015 single, “Driftwood” is a subdued poppy wonder. It’s a play-it-again nugget of modern cinematic pop with its piano punctuations, surf-influenced guitar and sing-a-long vocal harmonies. The three local melody-makers play Sunday, April 3, in the appropriately intimate confines of Bellytimber Tavern. Organized by Sweetheart Shows, proceeds will benefit Safe Harbor Shelter, the Richmond organization that helps survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
