Event Pick: Mozart Festival 2016

April 16

For centuries, classical music was the people’s music — and some are trying to ensure that it still is. Classical Revolution RVA, the Richmond performance and advocacy group founded by violinist Ellen Cockerham Riccio in 2012, has been taking the music back to to streets. On Saturday, April 16, the organization holds the third annual Mozart Festival in Jackson Ward. The free day-long festivities run 11 a.m.-11 p.m., with more than 100 musicians performing the operas, symphonies and chamber music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at Gallery5, Black Iris Music, the Atlas Gallery, the Coalition Theater and other locations within walking distance of each other in the city’s arts district. The full schedule is available at classicalrevolutionrva.com.
