Event Pick: Lucy Dacus, My Darling Fury and Spooky Cool at the National

Oct. 7

Some artists sound older than their years. Richmond’s great pop hope, Lucy Dacus, is one of them. Listening to her newest offering, “Audiotree Live” on her Bandcamp page, the tranquil weariness of “Map on the Wall” and “Direct Address” convey a musical and lyrical equanimity that’s disarming for a singer still in her early 20s. Her voice shapes emotions and sentiments in ways that make you immediately bond with her. Though she isn’t Patsy Cline, Nina Simone or Amy Winehouse, Dacas shares the gift of making you feel as if she’s the only one who really knows you. On Saturday, Oct. 7, she and her equally impressive band play the National. The night of homegrown sensations includes opening sets by must-see Richmond groups My Darling Fury and Spooky Cool, so be sure to get there early. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $13-$16. thenationalva.com.
