Event Pick: King Week at Virginia Commonwealth University

Jan. 18-25

We take for granted the social and cultural advancements fought and died for by the late Martin Luther King Jr. and many others in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Given the recent tide of xenophobic rhetoric and festering racial and economic tensions, there’s still a long way to go. The life and legacy of the American icon will be explored in depth during King Week at Virginia Commonwealth University from Jan. 18-25. There will be lectures, panel discussions, interactive workshops, film screenings and performances as well as voter-registration, blood and food drives to not only commemorate but also continue King’s work. See our calendar pages for all the events, call 828-6500 or visit mlkday.vcu.edu.
