Pittsburgh-based violinist Joey Molinaro doesn’t play his instrument as much as he uses it as a weapon. On his 2015 release, “At Last: I Who Will Forever Evil Yet Do Forever Good,” he bows his violin’s four strings like he’s sharpening four individual blades. Despite its devious intentions, it is a deeply musical assault. The strategic stab wounds of “The Immolationary and the Little Hedgehog, Lost in the Fog” and “Infinite Midnight Suite” are infinitely creepy and engrossing forays into cognitive dissonance — a unique and beautifully disturbing music. Joey Molinaro headlines a night of outsider abrasions Sunday, Dec. 27, at Strange Matter. Joining him will be hit-and-run sets by Richmond sound manipulators Flesh Control, Yohimbe, Mu Zak City, Fake Object and Negative Space. Doors open for the 18-and-older show at 9 p.m. $7. strangematterrva.com.
