Event Pick: Gramfest IV, a Tribute to Gram Parsons, at Max’s Positive Vibe Café

Sept. 16

Gram Parsons was a rich kid from the South who knew he wanted to be a rock star from childhood, specifically the moment he got to meet Elvis. He wound up becoming one of the pioneers of country rock — which he hated — preferring to make Cosmic American music that was more encompassing of soul, roots country, blues and gospel. During his brief life, Parsons made the most of his poster boy good looks, mellifluous voice and honed songwriting skills while also partying with the Rolling Stones and influencing some of their most classic tunes. You can hear his great original songs celebrated by local artists at Max’s Positive Vibe Café on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Here’s the lineup: Andy Vaughan and the Driveline (around 6 p.m.), Jay Turner (6:50 p.m.), the Highballers (around 7:45 p.m.) and the Burrito Riders League at around 9:10 p.m. Your $5 minimum donation goes to the training of mentally and physically challenged adults for work in the food industry. positiveviberva.com.
