“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.” The reformation of Washington hardcore stalwarts Government Issue could just as well have provoked Albert Camus to utter those words. The group, which has been led through its numerous manifestations by manic court jester John Stabb, represented a playful defiance during its heyday in the 1980s. Government Issue was the Cheap Trick of that influential underground music scene eschewing the heady concerns favored by their contemporaries, such as the Bad Brains and Minor Threat, for lighthearted takes on the young-man blues. On Thursday, Oct. 29, the 21st-century incarnation of the group featuring Stabb, original guitarist John Barry and new members bassist S. Dwayne Bruner and drummer Evan Tanner play at the Camel. Joining them will be War on Women from Baltimore and Richmond groups Omega Boys and Park Sparrows. Doors open for the all ages show at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15. thecamel.org.
