Go-go is an American folk music tradition most people outside of Maryland, Washington and Virginia know nothing about. Defined by its syncopated beats, multilayered percussions and call-and-responses, the little-known regional funk will be celebrated Friday, April 8, for the one-night exhibition and dance party, Go-Go Rules the Night, at Studio Two Three. Vintage letterpress posters will be on display from the genre’s glory era of the mid-’70s to early-’90s, printed by Globe Poster Printing Corp., as well as rarely-seen fliers and memorabilia. DJs TDawg and Rudeboi will spin classics and obscurities on vinyl by Richmond Folk Festival alumnus Trouble Funk, Rare Essence, the Junk Yard Band, the late, great Chuck Brown and other masters of the form. Doors open for the booty-shaking history lesson at 7 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Call 254-7302 or visit printrva.org.
