Event Pick: Ghana Fest 2016 at Richmond International Raceway

March 12-13

It’s not every day that you get to immerse yourself in the cultural arts of Ghana. On Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, you can acquaint yourself with the culinary, musical and dance-based traditions of the West African country and surrounding nations during Ghana Fest 2016 at the Richmond International Raceway. Held annually by the Sankofa Foundation, the festival commemorates the anniversary of the nation’s independence from British colonial rule. There will be an abundance of Ghanaian cuisine for both omnivores and vegetarians to sample as well as performances by the Sankofa Theatre, Grammy-Award nominee Cheick Hamala Diabaté from Mali, and others rooted in the expressions of the motherland. Fun for the whole family, the cultural immersion runs from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on both days. Free. ghanafest.net.
