Event Pick: Father’s Day Keg ’n’ Oyster Fest at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

Sunday, June 19

I’ll tell you what Dad wants: nothing. A day filled with nothing — no chores, responsibilities, bills, questions or commitments — is what I and virtually every man I know with offspring wants. Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19, the Hallmark holiday for men with children, or as a father friend of mine jokingly calls them, “dream killers.” But if you want to get Dad out of the house, you could try the Father’s Day Keg ’n’ Oyster Fest at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. It has everything Dad likes, including beer, seafood from Rappahannock Oyster Co. and performances from Exebelle and the Rusted Cavalcade, Continental Clouds and the River City Band. No doubt, some dads will want to stay home to pursue a blissful day of sweet nothingness so don’t feel compelled to poke the bear. But chances are the allure of an afternoon drinking beer will be enough to get him off the couch. The free, father-first festivities run noon-6 p.m. hardywood.com.
