Event Pick: Engaged: Virginia’s First LGBTQ Wedding Show

April 17

Despite the state’s legal recognition of same-sex marriage, some Virginia legislators are working hard to bring back the good ol’ days of discrimination. Consider Senate Bill 41, recently vetoed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe. The legislation sought to “protect people expressing their sincerely held religious beliefs and moral convictions” against same-sex marriage. It’s the same argument that people used to justify legal discrimination against certain ethnicities and religious affiliations. Engaged: Virginia’s First LGBTQ Wedding Show takes place Sunday, April 17, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Sponsored by Unite VA Magazine and Richmond Weddings, the event will feature more than 60 vendors vying to make your marriage (to whomever you want) everything you and your partner want it to be. The nuptial-enriching showcase runs 1-4:30 p.m. Admission is $9. virginiagayweddings.com.
