During its heyday in the Los Angles paisley underground of the early 1980s, the Dream Syndicate was dismissed in some quarters as Velvet Underground wannabes. While there’s no mistaking the Lou Reed influence on the group’s seminal 1982 debut, “The Days of Wine and Roses,” the album was and remains a vital listen. On Saturday, Dec. 5, founding members including guitarist, singer and songwriter Steve Wynn and drummer Dennis Duck are joined by guitarist Jason Victor and bassist Mark Walton for a rare live performance at Strange Matter. Opening will be a group of musical friends fronted by Wynn’s cohort in ’90s indie super group Gutterball, Stephen McCarthy, and Richmond power-pop punkers the Green Hearts. Doors open at 8 p.m. $15. strangematterrva.com.
