Event Pick: Doomstone: a Day of Stoner Rock and Doom Metal at Hardywood

June 11

Heavy metal and daylight are diametrically opposed. One nurtures life and the other stands in direct opposition to it. On Saturday, June 11, the yin and yang of life experiences will be on display when Doomstone: a Day of Stoner Rock and Doom Metal takes over Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. The inaugural, one-day music festival features an assortment of local and regional angst purveyors bringing their respective doom and glooms into the light. Representing Richmond riffage will be Small Stone recording artists Throttlerod, sludge warriors the Medusa, damaged blues trio Dirt Merchant and psych rockers Book of Wyrms. Joining them for the Southern sunlight slaughter will be Kinghitter, Demon Eye and Bedowyn from Raleigh, North Carolina, and South Carolina’s Grüzer. Doors open for the eight-hour barrage of modern metal-making at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12-$15. hardywood.com.
