Event Pick: Classical Revolution RVA’s Fifth Anniversary

Nov. 9-16

Local nonprofit Classical Revolution RVA has been bringing classical music into untraditional settings such as local bars, breweries and cafes for five years now, making new fans. As part of its anniversary celebration, the organization is having a birthday week of programming from Nov. 9 to Nov. 16 while hoping to raise $5,000 — which if met, will be doubled by local supporters.

“The classical music scene here is very different from what it was five years ago when we started this organization,” said Ellen Cockerham Riccio, its founder and executive director, in a news release. “Musicians are more connected than ever before, there is more collaboration across genres and you can hear classical music in a bar at least a few times every month.”

Among the upcoming shows: Quatro Na Bossa with the group at Flora on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 9:30 p.m. ($10); #FlashBachFriday on Friday, Nov. 10, all over Richmond, free; Hadyn Where You Least Expect It at Babe’s in Carytown on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. for free; and the Birthday Bash with Beethoven’s Fifth at the Hof on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. $5 to $8. That’s a full 40-piece orchestra led by Daniel Myssyk, an associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. DJ Rattan performs after the event. classicalrevolutionrva.com.
