I’ve gotten to the stage in life when I say, “I remember when” with frequency. Then I make it a point to stress that what’s going to happen is much more interesting. Proof of that contention is Brick Fest Live, the traveling showcase of all things Lego, taking place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The difference between the Legos of my youth and the plastic construction toys of today is akin to the difference between communicating with two Styrofoam cups linked with a string verses conversing with high-speed Internet. With a mind-boggling assortment of life-sized figures, cityscapes, derby car tracks and miniature golf courses, these definitely aren’t your father’s Legos. The celebration of the beloved building blocks past, present and future takes place 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $24 and free for children younger than 2. brickfestlive.com.
