Event Pick: Bikes and Art in the Alley by Adventures in RVA

Aug. 27

Richmond was made for bicycles. Excluding the endurance tests of going to and from Church Hill or the South Side and the always-uneasy relationship between cars and bikes, two-wheeled travelers can cover the vast majority of the city without having to switch gears. On Saturday, Aug. 27, Adventures in RVA holds Bikes and Art in the Alley in the breezeway at 1910 E. Main St. Opened by Elvin Jefferson and Bruce Hopkins, the bicycle rental shop will offer several cycling-related events, including a best tricked-out bicycle contest, a Pokemon hunt and guided bike rides through city and other cycling routes adjacent to Shockoe Bottom. Local artists will be selling their work and a new mural advocating two-wheel living will be dedicated during the festivities. The free, velocipede-inspired fun runs 11 a.m.-9 p.m. For information, call 648-2453. rvabikerental.com.
