Few people embody Richmond’s creative class more than B.J. Kocen. As a tireless champion of local visual arts at the Glave Kocen Gallery and a longtime melody-maker, he’s an active fan and participant in the 804 world of expressions. On Thursday, Aug. 11, Kocen celebrates the release of his new double CD, “Searching for Signal / Old Lake” at the Broadberry. Many moons in the making, Kocen gets by with a little help from his friends — a who’s who of regional musicians including Brad Tucker, Jeff Bunn, Steve Bassett and Jackie Frost. They lend their skills to help the singer, songwriter and guitarist capture his ever-evolving, multigenre take on Americana. A gracious performer and showman, Kocen starts bringing it all home with his festive, feisty and friendly crew of co-conspirators at 8 p.m. Admission is $15.
