Advaeta’s brand of underground noise rock soars like a ravenous bird over a ground pulsating with worms. That is to say that it knows what it wants and it knows how to get it. While most gingerly nap-riding the frayed coattails of Sonic Youth, this Brooklyn group isn’t content to rehash the glories of past teenage riots. Advaeta ups the distorted ante with a visceral tribalism that doesn’t get lost in the pretense of art rock. There’s an unmistakable physicality to its releases that is surprisingly tuneful and melodic despite its intentions. A brutally invigorating listen, Advaeta bursts at the seams Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Strange Matter. Fellow New Yorkers Leaping and Richmond groups White Laces and Nervous Ticks open. 8 p.m. $8-$10. strangematterrva.com.
