Eat Your Heart Out

Celebrate love with these treats, eats, sips and events.

Whether you’re feeling sweet or salty about the approach of Valentine’s Day, Richmond’s culinary creators can supply the food to match your mood. Check out these special treats, eats and events.

Pink Room

Celebrate Galentine’s on Thursday Feb. 13 at Chef Brittanny Anderson’s 18-seat, all-pink cocktail bar in Church Hill. Two diners with $75 between them can expect two martinis, oysters, “Girl Dinner” and dessert. A full menu—written fresh every weekend—will also be available. Parties must be smaller than four to be accommodated. Walk-ins only. Get yourself to 803 N. 23 St. and see if the sign on the door says “Room” or “No Room.”

Hem and Her

The name of this “authentically inauthentic, traditionally untraditional” Khmer supper club may seem specially made for Valentine’s Day, but the “Her” is actually an homage to chef Santana Hem’s mother, Vichheka. Their $10 Valentine’s sampler box includes a brown butter black sesame brittle chocolate chip cookie, a coconut mango sticky rice treat and a peanut pandan brownie. Any of my secret admirers among the readership can order online for pickup at Second Bottle Wine (324 N 7th St.). With 48 hour notice, you can pick up Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.

Triple Crossing Beer

Every Friday in February is heart-themed movie night at Triple Crossing. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. at their downtown location at 113 Foushee St.

Feb. 7: “War of the Roses” (no sound)

Feb. 14: “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”

Feb. 21: “True Romance”

Feb. 28: “10 Things I Hate About You”

Triple Crossing will also have a Love & Pizza event at their Fulton location (5203 Hatcher St.) on Feb. 13 for Palentine’s Day, and Feb. 14 for V-Day. The $80 Palentine’s deal gets you and three friends two appetizers, two pizzas, a dessert board and your choice of a pitcher, a bottle of wine or a Mix Ferm bottle. The $45 Valentine’s deal is a “perfect dinner for two,” with a shareable Caesar salad, a heart-shaped pizza, dessert and a round of drinks.

Juan More Taco

“Heart-Shaped Box” is not only a great Nirvana song, it’s also a Valentine’s special from Juan More Taco. The meal includes chips, salsa, two margaritas, six red roses and a heart-shaped array of 25 street tacos. The number seems a set-up for strife in a dinner for two—who gets the last one? Can you “Lady and the Tramp” a taco? The boxes are $80 for chicken or al pastor, extra for premium proteins. Order and pre-pay now by calling (804) 537-8226.

Juan More Taco has heart shaped taco boxes (as in the tacos are heart shaped, not the box) made for friends, lovers or co-workers. The box comes with 25 tacos and every topping a person might want: six roses, chips and salsa and two margaritas. Photo by Scott Elmquist

… And we have another heart-shaped box, this one with 24 ice cream truffles in six flavors, all named with romantic puns. “Mint To Be” might be the best. Boxes are available for pickup at 403 Strawberry St. starting Thursday, Feb. 13, and continuing through the weekend. Boxes are $62.95, and you can order online.
