With Heide Trepanier’s “Gob Wars” at Reynolds Gallery, you’re getting paintings that strain to compose themselves into something like a narrative, to congeal into a tale as whimsical as green eggs and ham. But this cat never finds its hat, and it’s the struggle, the careful almost-image that Trepanier seems to be going for. She’s giving us the trials of primordial ooze as it tries to get it together, to become multicellular, and we’re seeing it right before it evolves. The show continues through April 7. 355-6553. S
