Don’t Call This a Comeback Either

Fifty million dollars is a … look, can you even imagine being offered that kind of scratch to tell jokes? Can you? When Comedy Central offered that sum to Dave Chappelle for two seasons of work on “Chappelle’s Show,” the world became fully aware of the goose that laid the golden fart joke. And oh the controversy he kicked up when he left the show! — heck, left the country — for Africa, to find himself and figure out the meaning of stuff. He’s said in interviews that he felt pressured by the network to conform, which is easy to criticize unless you consider that it’s Chappelle’s iconoclastic sense of humor that got him there. The point is that Dave has, in a sense, returned to his roots doing stand-up comedy, touring around in the environment in which he practically raised himself. So Saturday, Aug. 12, we’ll see exactly what kind of goose Dave has become with two shows, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $55. Call 262-8100 or visit www.livenation.com. S
