The acoustic Americana of Dogs on Main Street draws much of its inspiration from 1960s folkies Tim Hardin, Dave Van Ronk and, of course, little Bobby Dylan. Now located in New York, Richmond native Mac Rowe’s confessional versifications impart the existential longings of the trying-to-make-rent crowd on his new Church Hill Records release, “Reckoning.” The balladeer makes earnest music in the vein of Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska.” Sparse and emotive, Rowe’s voice stands front and center over his picked and strummed melodies, bowed but unbeaten as it tries to shake its awkward, post-teenage blues. Dogs on Main Street plays Sunday, March 16, at the Camel with Jonathan Vassar and Henry Upshur Coffin. Doors open at 7. Admission is $3 in advance and $5 at the door. thecamel.org.
