The Deftones have built a reputation on metal-infused tunes featuring plenty of heavy riffs on down-tuned guitars, throttled percussion and dark lyrical imagery delivered with both vicious screams and atmospheric gnashing. The California quintet has immersed itself in the strengths of texture and blood-letting mood. Getting more comparisons to the likes of the Cure than Korn, the Deftones have developed a keen awareness when it comes to making the dangerous warily beautiful. Performing plenty of tunes off their recently released sixth album, “Diamond Eyes,” the Deftones are scheduled to play the National on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. $31. 612-1900.
