Deerhunter at the Canal Club

Deerhunter's Bradford Cox doesn't match the appearance of your typical indie rock frontman. Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue, Cox stands at a towering 6-foot-4 with a body-fat percentage that only accentuates his Jack Skellington limbs. Blending experimental, shoe-gazing noise with melodic psych-pop coherence, the band has progressed since its 2007 breakout album, “Cryptograms,” becoming increasingly better at balancing its aesthetic extremes to create some really compelling, disquieting tunes. Supporting its latest album, “Halcyon Digest,” Deerhunter is scheduled to perform at the Canal Club on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. $14-$17.  — Mike Hilleary
