Dead Confederate at the Canal Club

After listening to the angst-driven mix of grunge and Southern rock that comes out of Dead Confederate's debut album, “Wrecking Ball,” it comes as little shock to find out that the Athens, Ga.-based quintet recorded the songs in the same compact, claustrophobic room that generated the sound effects for the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” With popular morale-boosting tunes such as “Rat,” “Goner” and “Flesh Colored Canvas,” find out what would happen if Kurt Cobain had lived long enough to develop a fixation with Pink Floyd and the roots of the American South. The band plays the Canal Club with Manchester Orchestra on Friday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. $11-$13. 643-CLUB.– Mike Hilleary
