Shelia Callaghan's strangely provocative stage work, “Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake)” is a play that doesn't lend itself to an explainable plot. Featuring an anxiety-ridden mother compelled to spend her time baking in the kitchen, a daughter who holds spiteful conversations with her dolls and fantasizes about a select pop star, and an apartment given personified form that constantly laments its current state of disrepair, this concise one-act production focuses its narrative more on its emotional progression than its surface level. Delving into the comically quirky and darkly disturbing aftermath following the death of a husband and father, “Crumble” addresses loss coping, and the strength to rebuild when it opens at the Firehouse Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 25. Part of a statewide “Minds Wide Open” celebration of women in the arts, the show continues through March 20. $10-$25.
