“It’s kind of a hit-or-miss thing,” Morrison says. “A lot of people are interested but trying to figure out what to do with it.”

Several pallets of the marble still remain from the first shipment. Another Dumpster’s worth should arrive any day now, says Rich Evans, director of retail operations at ReStore.

The city is removing 23,000 panels of the marble from City Hall as part of a $19 million makeover, expected to be complete next summer. An expensive, decorative marble when purchased new, it had been cracking and bowing from inclement weather. So the city has been forced to replace the siding.

At ReStore, the marble is in jagged, broken chunks ranging in size from 2 inches wide to 18-inch squares. — Scott Bass
